About the RAL Color System
RAL is a European color matching system used primarily in architecture, manufacturing, powder coating, and industrial design. The name comes from Reichs-Ausschuß für Lieferbedingungen (Reich Committee for Delivery Terms), founded in Germany in 1927.
RAL Classic is the original collection with 211 standardized colors, each identified by a 4-digit code. The first digit indicates the color family: 1xxx = yellow/beige, 2xxx = orange, 3xxx = red, 4xxx = violet, 5xxx = blue, 6xxx = green, 7xxx = grey, 8xxx = brown, 9xxx = white and black.
Commonly searched RAL codes: RAL 9010 (pure white) is the most widely used white in architecture and product design. RAL 9005 (jet black) is the standard for matte black finishes. RAL 7016 (anthracite grey) is popular for window frames and facades. RAL 7035 (light grey) is the classic computer equipment grey.
The hex values on this page are the closest digital approximations. Printed RAL colors may differ slightly from screen representations due to differences between light and pigment.
